Sometime around 1973, Dalí began making a group of small sculptures, working directly with wax, and continued this activity until 1979. This provided a break from painting and the studio while sitting outside in the sun in the mornings. The heat of the sun helped his song from a technical point of view, as it made the wax more malleable and sensitive to the touch.
